Bloomington Hires New Poplar Bridge Elementary School Principal

Mr. Steven T. Flucas

Steven T. Flucas will become the new principal at Poplar Bridge Elementary School, succeeding Dr. Gail Swor, who is retiring after 21 years as the school’s leader.

Flucas is finishing his second year as principal of Dayton’s Bluff Achievement Plus Elementary School in St. Paul. Flucas also served as an assistant principal at St. Paul’s Linwood Monroe Arts Plus School (2008-2010) and as a social worker in the Minneapolis and Chaska school systems. From 1993-99, Flucas was a supervisor at the McLean County Juvenile Detention Center in Normal, IL, and was a substitute teacher and coach at Normal Community High School.

Flucas holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Southern Illinois University and the University of Illinois respectively, and earned his principals K-12 licensure from the University of Minnesota. He is working on a doctoral degree at the University of Minnesota.

Flucas earned the Frank Itzin Award for Excellence in Instruction in 2000 and was inducted into the Southern Illinois University’s Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1986.

Poplar Bridge has a current enrollment of 462 students and 63 staff members.
