Now Is the Time!

| June 12, 2012

Have you ever thought about how clever we can be at finding ways to perpetuate our own dissatisfaction and unhappiness?  Sometimes we seem to make great effort to put off a task we dislike and thereby making ourselves miserable for days.  When we finally face it, we realize that completing it is less painful than the mental distress we suffered through while the task was hanging over our heads, sitting on our desk or just rolling about in our mind.  Perhaps now is the time to rethink the steps we take that allow our self-imposed misery.

Gosh we work hard hanging onto old habits, never stopping to consider a fresh viewpoint!  Intuition may be hovering at the threshold of our consciousness, like a child asking its parent, “Why do you do it this way instead of that?”  But the question always receives the same dead-end answer, “That’s the way we’ve always done it.”  It reminds me of a story I heard many years ago that went like this:  A newly married young woman, while preparing an Easter dinner for her husband, cut off the end of the ham before putting it in the pan to roast, just like her Mother had done before her. One afternoon while her Mother was visiting, her daughter asked her why she had always cut the end off the ham. The Mother replied that it was what her Mother had always done.  Mother and daughter decided to pay a visit to Grandma to find the answer to their question.

So the following Sunday, while visiting Grandma, they asked her why she had always cut the end off the ham before putting it in the roasting pan. She replied, “I only had a small pan and it was usually too small for the size of the ham!” This story beautifully illustrates what can happen when we blindly follow tradition without asking the appropriate questions.

How many habits are so ingrained in your thoughts and actions that you continue to stagnate instead of reaching up and out for a new, more exciting and perhaps more effective way of doing something?  Three generations of cutting the ham off ~ I would guess that someplace along the way one of those delightful ladies had a pan large enough for the ham they were cooking!

Can you accept that the gifts of the Universe are ours for the taking?  Just because we have never claimed them before is no reason not to do so now.  Joy, abundance, love, knowledge; all the Divine attributes may be ours.  All we need to do is accept them.  What are you waiting for?  Now is the time to take a new stand and accept all the present possibilities for your life ~ stop postponing your good by refusing to discard old, worn out thought-habits.  Go out and buy a larger pan!

Believe you can have all the good things life offers!
